Dependence on opiates such as painkillers and heroin continue to cause overdose and trauma to families across Indian Country. There is no perfect solution, but approaches such as Harm Reduction and Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) can greatly reduce overdose deaths and help some patients on the road to recovery.

Presenter Bios
Jessica Rienstra, BSN, RN, is a Registered Nurse at Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board working as an ECHO Case Manager. Prior to joining the ECHO team, she worked in pediatric health in Madagascar, Mozambique and Sudan. Jessica also worked 5 years at a Tribal Health Center in Washington State where she helped develop and implement harm reduction, syringe service, and HCV elimination programs. She is also currently pursuing her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree at Gonzaga University. Jessica is passionate about ensuring accessible, destigmatized, and intentional health care for all.
