He reviews how to assess and manage patients, signs of mild to severe hypothermia, and safe rewarming methods in the field and hospital. He also discusses frostbite and frostnip and how they develop and how to treat them safely to prevent lasting damage.

Christian Mateo Garcia, MD, is originally from New Mexico and still calls it his home. Mateo started as an EMT-Basic in a rural fire department setting. He eventually attained his EMT-Intermediate and worked in a Wildland fire setting. Mateo attained his medical degree from the University of New Mexico. He at is faculty at UNM within the Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Prehospital, Austere and Disaster Medicine. Mateo has a passion for EMS education and his biggest interest within EMS is medical direction and system building in rural and Tribal settings.
