“What inspires me to do the work I do is being the doctor I wish I had as a young person and uplifting future generations of indigenous health professionals. What I value most about my work and serving Indigenous people, is how we focus on relationship medicine. It's centered on people and our communities, our relationships to each other and the land.”
Brianna Irons is a pediatric resident in the Leadership in Equity and Advocacy (LEAD) Track at the Boston Combined Residency Program (Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center). She earned her medical degree from the University of California San Diego, School of Medicine through the PRIME-Transforming Indigenous Doctoring Education (TIDE) program and her MPH in Quantitative Methods with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Irons’ work focuses on advancing health equity for Indigenous communities, particularly in child and adolescent health. She has held national leadership roles with the American Medical Association, Medical Student Section – Committee on American Indian Affairs, the Association of Native American Medical Students and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Pediatric Trainees. Her research and advocacy span indigenous health policy, pediatric emergency medicine, adolescent medicine and health equity. Through community engagement, mentorship, and scholarship, she is committed to strengthening pathways for Indigenous youth in medicine and improving pediatric health outcomes for Native communities.
