In this presentation, Dr Eitan Bornstein highlights best practices for responding to the rise of congenital syphilis rates in Indigenous communities. Dr Bornstein provides a brief syphilis 101 followed by the epidemiology of syphilis as well as syphilis in pregnancy with a special focus on the newest data available. He then reviews the management of syphilis in pregnancy, and finally discusses about how the MCH community can address challenges to congenital syphilis prevention.

Dr. Eitan Bornstein

Ethan “Eitan” Bornstein, MD, grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and studied medicine at Emory University. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado in Denver, where he met his wife. From there, Ethan relocated to Chinle, Arizona, where he and his wife worked for the Navajo Nation Indian Health Service. He now works for the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service.
