In this presentation, LT Xiao Hong (Gina) Huang, PharmD & LT Tina Varughese, PharmD discuss opioid overdose, compare and contrast naloxone formulations, and introduce the implementation of pharmacy-managed naloxone clinics within the BOP.

LT Xiao Hong (Gina) Huang, PharmD is a staff pharmacist at USMCFP Springfield, a care level 4 institution that provides specialty care in both mental health and dialysis. She practices under a comprehensive collaborative practice agreement with prescribing privileges for inmates receiving Aminoglycoside/Vancomycin, diabetes, HIV, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, hepatitis C, non-narcotic pain management, opioid antagonist, and anticoagulation therapy. LT Huang transferred to the BOP from an IHS service unit located in the heart of Navajo Nation, Kayenta Health Center.

LT Tina Varughese is a staff pharmacist at USMCFP Springfield, a care level 4 institution that houses a large inmate population. She previously worked in the private sector, and as a civilian staff pharmacist at USMCFP, before transitioning to PHS in July 2021. She has a collaborative practice agreement to manage patients in multiple clinics such as: diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, vancomycin, HIV and naloxone. She is eager to teach others about the knowledge that she has gained, so that it can help them in their practice.
