This presentation addresses recognizing recent changes to the paradigm of neonatal resuscitation that differ from classic EMS teaching, identifying risk factors for the need for neonatal resuscitation and intervention in the immediate post-partum period, understand the importance of oxygenation and ventilation in the resuscitation of a neonate, recognizing infants with a pulse that require cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and correctly apply doses of resuscitation medications and strategies for intravascular access in the neonate.

Clint Kalan, MMSc, PA-C, is a physician assistant and faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. His interest and involvement in EMS spans 20 years. He previously served as the founding program director for the UNM PA post-graduate training program. He now spends his time helping with the medical direction team of Taos County Fire and EMS, Angel Fire FD, Presbyterian Cuba EMS, and Kewa Pueblo Emergency Services.
