In this presentation, Dr Asha Atwell provides a background of street medicine and discusses development of the Sih Hasin program and services provided. Dr Atwell also shares a definition of homelessness, insight about the trust gaining step of developing a program to serve patients experience homelessness to decrease barriers to care, and next steps for the program.

Dr Asha Atwell, DO

Dr. Asha Atwell, DO, is an EM trained, board certified physician who trained at the UCLA affiliated EM program at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, CA. After completing residency, she moved to Flagstaff, AZ and worked for 3 years at Flagstaff Medical Center. During her time there, she became familiar with the reservation and decided to move her family to Southwest Colorado to work at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. Upon arriving, the ER director left and she replaced him. After 3 years in that role, she transitioned out of the ER and into developing the Sih Hasin Street Medicine program under the Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Community Health at NNMC. Asha also enjoys hiking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, river rafting, skiing in the Four Corners area with her son, husband and dogs.
