Cristina Gruta, PharmD, is a pharmacist who specializes in antiretroviral therapy for patients living with HIV and AIDS, with a particular focus on caring for men of color. She works with doctors and nurses to design and optimize drug therapy. She is a senior pharmacy consultant for three national consultation telephone lines for health care providers, the National HIV Telephone Consultation Service (Warmline), Post-Exposure Prophylaxis hotline (PEPline) and Perinatal HIV Consultation and Referral Service. She also serves as a pharmacy consultant for the California Department of Health Office of AIDS. In her research, Gruta studies trends in prophylaxis (preventive measures) for opportunistic infections as well as in antiretroviral therapy usage. Gruta earned her doctor of pharmacy degree at the UCSF School of Pharmacy. She completed two pharmacy residencies, one at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and one specializing in HIV/AIDS care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
